what caught my eye

The dancer in this video is called Sergei Polunin. He danced to "Take Me To Church" composed by the artist Hozier. The dance was made for film on a site specific stage and so was directed by David Lachapelle.

The choreography was by Jade Hale-Christofi, it intrigued me as the dance has been choreographed with Ballet technique all the way through. However we see bursts of Contemporary. In stages of the dance, often when emotion is being shown we see the movements become less rigid and more free and not constricted to the foundations of Ballet.

They have created a hybrid style that allows the two styles to work together effortlessly. By doing this people have took an interest and Sergei Polunin now has the reputation as the "Bad Boy Of Ballet."  This is because they have merged the line that separates the two styles and pushed ballet to its extremes. I would like to take inspiration from this choreography and make my work not set in a certain style so it appeals to a wider audience.
