creating the group choreography

After looking at Lea Anderson we decided that we would like incorporate pedestrian movements into our group piece. We began by writing a list of 6 pedestrian movements, we then attached them to a dice number creating a order of what movements would come first. Once we had established this we started to create our solos using this score, additionally we then added Laban's efforts using  the same method to give the movement more dynamical range.

We liked the way the pedestrian movement looked as it almost made the person look manic. As they were performing everyday movements but in the wrong manner for example they were doing them too sharp, mangled or exaggerated.

We watched the solos we had created back and decided we would try and perform them compact in a group, this made the movements more interesting. As the dancers were creating spaces that other dancers could move through, giving the impression of being entwined.

After watching this version back we decide that although we were all performing different choreography, we wanted ensure everyone was moving at the same speed. This was so it didn't become too distracting for the audience.

We experimented with bound and free flowing movement until we decide that we wanted the first section to be performed at double speed. Then for the second section the whole section would be repeated but extremely slowed down, so it looked like we were struggling to perform the movements because we were fighting against the control.

The feedback was positive, although we were told that we have to really pull on the opposites of the speed to create the biggest contrast.

We also looked into pedestrian movement from a slightly different angle, we wondered what it would look like to have the person reacting as if the had be pushed or lead in a certain direction. We played around with this concept for some time and decided to slot this motion into the dance, to reinforce that idea of control. Its qualities differed from time to time sometimes we would have the individual who is control standing next to the other making the link clear, and others they would come in much later in to the sequence.
